Pre-Operative Preparation

Please follow the procedures below to ensure an effective and safe surgery. Failure to do so may result in your operation being delayed or cancelled.
General Surgery Preparation

Preparing for Surgery

Prior to your surgical procedure, you will receive a phone call from a member of our nursing or anesthesia staff. If, for some reason, we are not able to reach you, please contact us at (847) 458-1246 and ask for a Pre-op Nurse.

Follow the doctors advise

When you are contacted by the Pre-op Nurse from the Surgery Center she will instruct you on which daily medications should be taken the day of surgery.

Do not eat or drink

Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery unless your doctor or anesthesiologist instructs otherwise. This includes food, liquids, water, candy, gum and chewing tobacco.

No smoking

Do not smoke after midnight the night before surgery.

Share your pre/current medical history

If you take blood thinners, or if you take aspirin or ibuprofen daily or frequently, please tell the surgeon.

Do not drive the vehicle

Do not plan drive yourself home following surgery. You should arrange for a caregiver (responsible adult over the age of 18) to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours as you recover from anesthesia and your procedure.
